LHS Narducci Award

2018 Narducci Award Winner – 75 North Union Street

Lambertville Historical Society established the Alice Narducci Preservation Awards in 1996 in honor of founding society president Alice Narducci. The award, a bronze plaque, recognizes the historical preservation of a structure’s exterior, restoration of a building to its original architectural integrity or a combination. Both residences and businesses in the city of Lambertville are eligible to receive awards.

On Sunday, January 17, 2021 the Narducci Award was presented to the owners of 28 and 30 Delevan St./(28 ) (30 Russell Ferri) and 18 North Union St./ Joseph Caprio of North Union St Holdings LLC.

28-30, a twin home on Delevan Street dating to 1884, fortunately retained the original architectural details.  The owners on both sides worked to restore them through historically accurate paint and other improvements continuing the integrity and symmetry of a single home.

18 North Union, a 200 year-old brick structure in Lambertville’s downtown, underwent a major rehabilitation. A few of the efforts included repointing brick using special lime/sand mortar mix with a custom-built small trowel. Portland cement was not introduced in the United States until 1875 so he specifically matched the mortar mix more commonly used around 1820.  Mr. Caprio also returned historically-accurate, custom-made, fully-operable shutters to the building, along with hardware appropriate to the period.
